While platforms like WordPress and Ghost work perfectly for getting content out there, I still believe that I would be better off creating my own system for this site.
Why? Because I want more than just publish articles.
What I want:
- An updates section where people can see what I post in a timeline, just like twitter's chronological feed (short form content like updates or random thoughts etc.).
- An articles section that will display longer form content (blog posts and tutorials etc.).
- Regular pages (about pages, project pages, resource pages etc.).
You can pull this off with WordPress, but the system gets very slow when you start adding plugins. Ghost on the other hand covers points two and three but is very limited and not extensible.
And why don't I build my own system then?
- Takes too long to build
- Having to maintain the code
For now, I'll keep using Ghost until I find something better. I might end up building my own system if I ever find the time.
